An apology--and a poem
Just to let you know that I had my first shot of Evenity last Tuesday--and I'm doing really well! I can almost feel my bones growing stronger. I promise to post more regularly, from now on. ❤️
Prayer to My Body
Let us welcome the medicine, this time— the pharmaceutical especially designed to keep our bones from sloughing off the chemical bonds that keep them sound. Let us greet, with gratitude and relief, the team of molecules trained to organize our innate ability to accrete brand-new bone cells. Let this skeleton, which grew from microscopic plans so beautifully at the start of our journey, strew roses at the biochemical entryway. How fortunate, this second chance to be unbroken on our final, highly scenic stretch of road. Let us dance and sing beneath the moon and all the stars whose light persists in delivering its gifts beyond the life-span of its source. —Copyright © 2024 by Barbara Quick
Is this too personal? I hope not. Dealing with two broken bones in the last year convinced me to try to find a medical intervention that will work for me. It hasn’t been easy!
So many people I know are dealing, in one way or another, with osteoporosis or osteopenia. I’m thinking of writing a piece of investigative journalism that will look into why the solutions so far are all so imperfect, carrying all sorts of risks and black-box warnings, and often having less than stellar results.
Do you have a story to tell about this? I’d love to hear from you!
